Danger blooms in Cape Cod ponds

On the afternoon of July 11 the beach at Gull Pond was empty: no chairs in the sand, no children doing cannonballs and belly flops from the dock. “CLOSED, NO SWIMMING,” a sign read. “Swimming May Cause Illness.”

This is the story of how our addiction to fossil fuels is beginning to make some ponds unsafe even for swimming.
